I saw this posted by a guy that owns a few fast food chain stores. Honestly he's a hard working guy and holds several ownership positions. But his complete lack of accountability for not being able to hire people is laighable.
All of the comments on his post were the usual arguments about how “People don't wanna work anymore” and “They're only interested in what you can do for THEM. ” It drove me to Absolute anger. Like, why are we not having the conversation that “People DO wanna work. They just don't wanna work a shitty job for wages that don't support a dignified life. All the while being fully aware that you are living extremely comfortable as a result of YOUR EMPLOYEES daily efforts!”
People don't show up for your lousy fast food job interview because you pay shit, demand ridiculous hours from them, and ( likely) talk down to them while they're working. If you really want people to work like the good ol days, start treating them like companies did in the good ol days. A LIVABLE wage. Decent hours which promote a life with their families. Pensions. Affordable health insurance. Etc
I also know the argument that “Fast food jobs aren't meant to make a living. They're meant for kids who live at home or as first jobs.” To that I reply… BULLSHIT!!! Some people will only ever have the ability to work in a service industry. It should not restrict their right to afford basic necessities . Food. Rent for a modest dwelling. Healthcare. Transportation. Anyone who works full time in ANY job should be able to provide these basic requirements for themselves. No human being should be forced to work two or even three full time jobs just to avoid being homeless. We need to stop treating people who work in fast food like they are less entitled to a dignified life than the CEO of the company they work for.
We've normalized and accepted corporate greed and taking advantage of employees. And when people start realizing their value and standing up for that, they're labeled as lazy or too demanding. It's crazy. And hearing it over and over is driving me insane. Especially when it's coming from those who live in big houses and drive fancy cars that they bought BECAUSE of the people who work for them.
Rant over. Thanks for indulging me. .
