I have mild insomnia which for the most part doesn't especially impact my life, because my job is/was very part time. Unfortunately, the other day was not one of those times and I ended up needing to call out so I texted my supervisor and she tells me to email the boss, so I do (and then don't hear back from her aside from an extremely snarky message thirty minutes after my shift was supposed to start.)
I was told it was an unexcused absence which, whatever, I'm more irritated that it meant I wouldn't get the 100$ at the end of the season for not missing a day. Next day I get ANOTHER email from my boss telling me “employment will be subject to evaluation with any further unexcused absences.”
Because I didn't request off two weeks in advance through the scheduling app. Like I'm sorry do you think I schedule my illnesses? Insufficient notice + unexcusable reason. ONE (1) shift missed, and I'm being threatened with termination, and being told to review the attendance policy.
Honestly that email killed any desire for me to continue working there, and my boss is already just terrible and incompetent that several people I know chose not to come back this season. Fast forward to yesterday and I ended up skipping staff training after a night where we had a 6 hour power outage in 90+° weather, so I couldn't sleep from the heat, AND the 'shift' was 10am instead of the normal ~4pm start time. I was going to go anyways, since training is basically a glorified PowerPoint for 4 hours and it's free money, but we ended up getting lost on the way to work bc we were just exhausted. Took it as a sign to just quit since I don't actually need the job.
It sucks because I do enjoy the work since it's extremely easy, but I just refuse to be treated like I'm irresponsible for calling out for literally the first time since I started working there.
