Someone I know, X, is a school bus driver for ABC Inc.
Recently ABC gave their drivers a raise and then changed how they are paid.
As it stands, drivers are paid for a 15 min vehicle circle check, and then not paid until the first student is picked up. this could be 30 min or more driving. They stop getting paid after the last student is dropped off and still have to return to base or home.
X makes less now than before the raise.
Monitors who live more than 2km (1.25 mi)from where drivers start up need to walk to the route the driver takes (I hope that makes sense).
Now, due to overnight construction where X lives. The noise and vibration kept X awake until 5 a.m. X emailed and called ABC to report as unfit to drive.
X was then berated because the supervisor was 45 min late covering the route. It seems the replacement and spare drivers are not easy to maintain now.
X was then told to take a nap and return to work in the afternoon. X has not had enough sleep yet.
I know I would not want my child in the care of a drowsy driver.
