I would have never treated an employer with so much apathy 15 years ago, but lets face it, this is late stage capitalism and Im gonna treat these jabronis like dirt.
Worked at a small employer for a couple months, decent owners. But the hours were little, the pay was basic, and their administration is old school. Like using manila folders to store info old. Found myself another job and texted the bosses to let them know Im not coming in anymore.
Queue the constant phone calls and voice messages. You know the drill.
“we just want to talk.”
“If I could just have five minutes of your time…”
“Could we perhaps chat about your time here and discuss why you left?”
“This came at a shock to us.”
No I aint chatting with anymore old boomers unless Im getting paid. Im not giving free consultations, Im not giving exit interviews or their informal equivalent, Im not wasting anymore time with you.
These crusty rich boomers are losing customers and are wondering why no one wants to work with them. Its simple, your pay and benefits are shit, your services are mediocre, and your M.O. has been obsolete for decades. Not a real mystery here, just capitalism. I found something better and im moving forward with my life.
Both my bosses could and should retire. They could be spending their remaining years on a beach or in europe, or a nice warm cabin in the woods. But theyre too old to enjoy it now. They can only afford to exert themselves to do two things: walk down the hall and talk…
Im glad i got a bit of their dough before they croaked. I never gave a shit about their business and neither did anyone else considering all the employees/customers theyve hemorrhaged over the years.
