Short staffed, yet trying to intimidate me into quitting

This is my second job I've had in the past 3 months. I thought I was getting a good job going with a corporation instead of a small business… that my effort would actually be seen and people would be more professional. Welp, today I found out that the manager of my department (I'm supposed to be the assistant manager) has been lying to me, telling me crazy customer stories to try and intimidate me into quitting. I left my last job because I didn't feel wanted and I was barely getting any training. I really don't want to try and find another job. What the hell is it with short staffed places trying to ice out new employees? I know I'm a good worker and I probably try too hard, but I'm still treated absolutely horribly by management. When I managed people, I was always grateful for new hires…

When I managed people, I was always grateful for new hires and showed my appreciation to them and provided them with training. It's unfortunate that it's not the norm.
