Should I get a degree in IT if my company pays for it?

I am a t1 service desk associate for a hospital with 2.5 years of experience with a google it support certification making 19.78 an hour which is pretty low, I recently applied for a job internally for a iam(identity access management) which is a subset of cyber security. A co worker who has worked here maybe a month or 2 less than me but has a college degree already interviewed and was giving an iam position, where I was only given a rejection letter not even an interview for an internal position. We both have good ratings on our reviews and both do extra for the service desk we work on. I can't help but feeling depressed that I could not even get an interview for an internal position. I can't help but feeling depressed that I could not even get an interview for an internal position.

I am 34 and not in a great position to go to school and do my job but this amount of money isn't enough to cover living expenses and my wife would like to have a baby soon but we barely clear 80k on dual income.
