I grew up poor and have spent most of my life working from the age of 14. Took all the overtime and worked holidays in the hope that hard work would pay off. I have lost friendships, missed out on time with family and sacrificed vacations. I'm nearing my thirties and I am DONE.
Currently unemployed and just burning through 5 years of savings. I'm being told that I need to get back into the work force but I am so unmotivated to do so. I'm sick of having my labour stolen to better some rich person when my wage will barely substantiate a comfortable life.
Plan is to stay out of work for as long as possible. I'm told I need to avoid using my savings but I don't understand why not. I don't even know what we're doing or where society is heading that supports that notion.
