My supervisor was having a convo with me about issues being experienced in the team where certain people within the team are having communication issues with an engineer.
While discussing with manager, I explained how I have worked with engineers for many years and have learned to talk engineer and formed working relationships with them, learning how to work around difficult characters and communications. This, coming from the fact that the two people involved felt the engineer was disrespectful and unprofessional.
To which he responds, “Yeah, if you grow up in a Puertorrican household where people are constantly yelling and being loud, you can adjust to it.” (Yes I am puertorrican)
I felt that this was a gross characterization of my ethnic background. I felt he was implying I'm “ghetto” when I've always acted in the most professional and responsible way at work and out. I'm planning to send him an email and express this. But should I also bring this up with HR, or just handle this privately for now?
