I work for a startup that clearly has been having cash flow issues over the last six months. At one period between May and June, I had three months' worth of pay pending. The situation has since improved for me but as of today, I am still owed my pay for the month of August. Some colleagues have been owed pay since June. Management has been sending updates loaded with promises about inflow coming from investors over the past weeks but there just doesn't seem to be any traction. I just see it as BS to string along the employees.
A colleague of mine was in a 1-1 call with our boss. The boss wanted to change some processes because there hasn't been much content posted. Colleague mentioned how there is nothing wrong with the process. It's because the team has no motivation. The boss said that WE, the team, are in a negative space (gaslighting) and that we should focus on thinking creatively to get out of the negative space. Colleague broke down because it had taken a toll on their mental health. Boss actually asked, “Do you think the team will be motivated again if they get paid?” It's amazing how thick some people can be.
