Sometimes I’m shocked by the ways employers try to trick people and deceive them

Got laid off from my job couple months ago and was told to reapply using the external application process, couldn't apply as an internal. Went through this painstaking process, narrow down the job that I wanted, gave them a start date of September. However, they came back to me and told me they need me to start 3 days after they offered me the job. That's right, randomly hit me up and tell me they are offering me the job, but I have three days to start, not to accept, to actually start. Why? Well, they need my employment to be concurrent, my actual termination date is in a few days, and If I don't start in a few days, I'd have to be brought in as a brand new hire as if I'd never worked there… It didn't make any sense. Then I read the contract for the severance…

Then I read the contract for the severance that was part of my layoff. If I accepted, not was simply offered but if I actually accepted, another new position with the company before my official termination date, then I wouldn't be eligible for several thousand dollars in severance that was promised to me. But they didn't tell me that. Nope. It was said that I needed to start working immediately because If I didn't then it would be like I was a new hire and have to go through that whole process of onboarding. Very deceptive how they say one thing, but in reality, it's another thing entirely that they are actually interested in and want.

Kind of funny how that works, isn't it? Laid off, and have to apply to new jobs as an external applicant, no preference as an internal. Once I prove myself and get offered the job, now I'm all of a sudden still an internal employee and I have to start at the exact date that they demand so they can steal my severance. Haha
