Hi All,
I need advice about how I should proceed from here because I feel like my case is probably a case of retaliation. I also want to know if I should just give my 2 weeks or other options.
I (30s f) work at a large corporation in Canada, Quebec to be specific. This corporation was bought out by a US company(will be important later).
About 2 1/2 weeks ago, someone talked about a heavy political subject regarding the conflict at work. I am a non hijabi Muslim (just so we are clear, I am horrified about all loss of life and homes and just don't want bloodshed on either side). I overhear this comment and I am upset. I quietly walk into another empty room and let my frustration out. I grab my things, advise people I need to advise and told them I was working from home. I leave to work from home and did. I also send an email out to HR advising what happened vaguely because the person who said it is a direct coworker.
Monday morning, there is a meeting with me, HR, boss (who was on vacation at the time incident happened) and another person on zoom. I explained the situation but not who said it. I said that this kind of speech violated company policy of diversity and inclusion and to have a neutral workplace. HR said well it's free speech. I reiterated that the comment directly went against company policy that was JUST Done by all employees for renewal. Also please bear in mind that lots of these people have pro-Zionist tendancies. They then gave me a probation ( 3 months) for stupid crap not related to this.
I had already been looking for new jobs but I was looking even more now. I have back to back interviews this week and next week. I wrote down all notes of what was said in an email for record keeping.
About 1 week after that, someone from another department (let's call person b) that I deal with came to my cubicle in a very aggressive manner saying that I wasn't telling the truth about forwarding them phone calls/providing phone number to another account representative from another company. I said that I did it and I can prove it. She said no and that she would report me. She left my cubicle and I sent an email to the other companies account representative asking them to confirm that I had provided contact info etc and she confirmed my statements in an email within 5 minutes. I later reported this to my boss and another superior. They said there is now a formal complaint. I don't know how true this is and I feel like the rug is being pulled over me. By the way, HR and this person B who told me I was a liar are blood related.
Another department head ( person c) came to me in secret, told me that they felt bad for me and wanted me to join their team. Apparently gossip runs quick here even though I did not say anything that wasn't in a meeting. There was a position for me in another department and they wanted to have me. I fully explained what happened to be very clear and honest and they said that they would call up to USA HR to handle this and get me in the other role. She told existing HR today.
Also side note, I am hustling a side business. My last little bit of money to get it rolling 100% depends on only this next paycheck. My pay is the 15th. I could fully support myself with this side hustle once that money is in.
My questions are the following:
- Are these sets of circumstances retaliation?
- Should I wait and see what happens in the other department and then be transferred over?
- Should I just give them 2 weeks and that's it?
- They have to pay me my salary if I put 2 weeks in and then they just say stop working right?
- Do I just wait for another job?
- Do I have any legal recourse?
Thanks
