I've been thinking a lot about this woman in this post https://reddit.com/r/antiwork/s/6UHXFY8rPu
I don't have to tell you we are in a war and you need to CYA.
First, I don't think this woman did a single thing wrong. Thought she was hired, rearranged her whole life, worked for a week, and then “Surprise!” Turns out she was never hired. If it was before the Pandemic. Or maybe the 00's.
You cannot be doing sh*t like this anymore. Let me tell you about getting the eff out of the Midwest.
My wife got a job out of grad school in the American West. Never having lived in the city she took the job, nor ever visiting it, nor knowing much of the culture or what it was going to be like, I was very reticent to move with her until I knew it was a for-sure thing. So I moved her and some of her personal effects out to the new city, and then just waited. If she made it past 90 days, then and only then would I work on moving the rest of our house out. Luckily, it worked out. But there were some days it was looking like a no-go.
I know a lot of people are flying solo in this life, and I know there are places in the US you kinda just have to flee from. But my take is: if you need to move for an employer, always keep your eye on how to exit with as little damage to your life as possible.
You cannot trust your employers, folks. Plan accordingly.
