(TRIGGER WARNING) Sunday night my second caller of the evening told me he was going to murder me in multiple ways and rape my child. Actually he said specially he was going to “stick his dick in my babies ass and make me lick the blood off his dick” before he snapped my neck. That was after he told me he was going to put a bullet in my head and told me to give him my Instagram so he can find me and kill me.
I worked for a 3 digit crisis line.
The pay? $21 per hour. No benefits.
The job? Abuse. I mean answering a crisis line.
Now listen, when it was the people who
Actually needed help the job wasn’t terrible. I helped hundreds of people.
But humans are fucking awful, and there are multiple sociopaths who call
988 over and over to abuse counselors and they are not suicidal or in crisis- they are just terrible.
These callers are known to vibrant- but over the past few months vibrant has continued to take counselor protections away. The man that threatened me had already called three times and threatened various ways of death on other counselors but I was the lucky one to get the child rape comment. I have a daughter.
Today (I called in last night) they called and fired me.
Now the company that runs 988 is called Vibrant. They claim to be a non profit but they are all about getting that government money. 988 is government funded but it’s administered by vibrant who creates or
Co-ops call centers to take 988 calls. They are greedy and run lines as understaffed as they can get away with and force their centers to do whatever they say so they can keep staff.
What do they offer for their counselors as help for taking calls?
One hour of group counseling a month 🤣

Have gotten canned before my mental health was totally destroyed.
Don’t work for 988. The money stays at the top and they do not care about their counselors ONLY their government contracts.
I am a solo parent (my child’s other parent is deceased) and I was just trying to pay the bills. I ended up destroying myself in the process. And now I need to try to find another job.
