He originally was hired specifically as a truly remote/wfh employee. It’s been that way for over a year and generally has worked out well. His coworkers are assholes and his manager and director micromanage everything, but it was tolerable because it was a remote job. Three weeks ago HR terminated all remote work and mandated everyone returned to office no matter what their job description says or how long of a commute. Now he has at least a 45 minute commute each way and has to deal with shitty coworkers and micromanagers. The look on his face when he gets home is so depressing. I told him I’ll support him no matter what, but it sucks to see him like this. I know one should never quit a job until you have another one lined up, but how long can one take this?
