I’m not one to usually bemoan the state of our capitalist system since I know I’m just yelling into the wind, but I felt the need to rant about my recent predicament.
I tested positive for both Strep and COVID yesterday. But I went to work today and will go to work tomorrow. Why? Because my job does not offer sick pay and I have no vacation days to cover my absences.
If I had told my job I had tested positive they would had forced me to go home for 5 days without pay. Pay that I cannot afford to lose. So I just kept mum and started wearing a mask with the excuse that “I’m just taking precautions since I hear stuff is spreading around”
It just struck me how screwed up our work culture is that we literally have to go to work sick just to survive . Of course, its not like we didn’t already know this
