This is a small win, but a win none the less. This takes place in Europe, where there's more protection for workers right. Not a brag, just context.
Was let go from my job for very BS reasons and considered the matter closed. I was given 6 weeks salary, and the company and I parted ways. After some back and forth, I talked to the legal service provided by my union about if there was anything that could be done, and it turns out that while the termination was legal, the company wasn't following the legislation about how much I was owed after they let me go. A brief email back to the company, and their response was basically 'Oops, our bad'.
Although they really dragged their feet in getting a new termination contract, I've now secured 14 weeks salary, since the company decided they should probably follow local laws. And since I'm not a local, I suspect that they, and other companies, take advantage of foreigners not knowing any better.
Fortunately I live in a country where having a union is pretty universal, and it's really at the time you need them the most that they make sense to have.
