The apparent “equity issue” of working from home

I currently work in admin at a social services agency and I’m hybrid. Whenever I ask for an extra day at home, or inquire about working from home more frequently when I’m trying to meet an important deadline and really need to focus (our office is open floor plan and I cannot focus for the life of me with 6 other people yelling at their computers on meetings), I’m told it’s an “equity issue”. Personally, I believe even the direct service workers should get to work from home when they are just doing paperwork. If it’s about equity, let’s make it EQUALLY good for everybody?

Also, I only got this admin roll because I’ve done years of direct service work which has qualified me for this higher paying roll. I did my time. As my spouse said: “I didn’t realize equity meant things being equally shitty for everyone”

Just want to know if anyone else is hearing this narrative.
