the concept that rich boomers have of “customer service” is literally disgusting

I was on some support chat dealing with a dumb issue, and the rep said something like “well ms lonabirdie it was wonderful speaking with u today and i was so pleased to send u that password reset email, i would love to be able to help u again sometime” and like… how is this normal? no one is fucking pleased to send a password reset email. he literally wouldve been more pleased to sit there and do nothing bc then at least he can relax, i was making him do one of the worlds most tedious tasks and there is nothing wrong with having a tedious job but u arent pleased about it. and him saying he was pleased about it made me feel icky i wouldve felt way better about the interaction if he had said “hey lonabirdie i sent the password reset email, is there anything else?…

why is that not good enough? why do customer service reps have to kiss the ass of every person trying to return some shitty plastic thing to walmart?

its like downton abbey or sth, where the servants have to act like they really just enjoy the servant life and they do not want a big house of their own, oh no, they're pleased just to serve u. and they would love to help u again sometime.
