TL:DR: a rant about companies expecting 2 weeks but firing you on the spot.
So I’ll preface this by stating that I hate the fact that I’m an American millennial who has to climb some shitty money ladder by “divorcing” from job to job just to make ends meet because employee retention is never in the minds of any business nowadays.. as someone who has been in both seats, unless you had a really good relationship with the previous employer or plan to use them in your resume.. the company is NEVER entitled to two weeks.
The fact that this is even an idea that you should continue to work for a place to help keep their affairs in order.. meanwhile if they want to let you go.. NOTHING.. they wash their hands of you and let the government pick up the pieces..
My wife has a new coworker that the boss PROMISED to train during her interview, two weeks in and they threw her to the wolves, she’s messing things up and now they’re having discussions about letting her go because “it’s not working out”.. and all I can think about is how unfair it is.. they gave her the promise of a job, benefits, TRAINING, and they get to just show her the door because the boss is incompetent? Drives me insane..
