The idea of “office ethics” should not exist.

I've been thinking a lot about all of the stuff my office requires me to do outside of my actual work and it's just absolutely infuriating. The biggest thing for me is how fucking anal these people are about timeliness. My showtime is at 7:30 AM but my office doesn't actually open to the public until 8:00 AM. This gives us a decent bit of time to get ready and take care of anything that we need to before we open. But, if I show up even just a single minute late, then I get written up and shamed. Why does this “rule” exist? Why does it matter, whether I show up at 7:32 or whatever? Obviously if it's like, approaching the time when we open, then that's an issue that actually affects productivity. But by a few minutes? Why? It really seems to me that the people who run…

It really seems to me that the people who run these offices only do so for control. They just want to be able to control the people below them and have them kiss ass just like they do to the their managers. It's a fucking ego trip. I keep getting told “that's just how the world works” when I complain about timeliness, dress/appearance codes, remote monitoring tools on our computers, etc. None of this actually has any affect on productivity as a whole, it only exists so they can feel like they have power.

I have yet to hear a single good reason for why someone who doesn't work a time-sensitive job needs to be exactly on time to a completely arbitrary start time. Is the work still getting done? Yes? Then why is this an issue? Why is any of this an issue? The only rules and regulations that should exist are ones that positively affect productivity and the well-being of the workers. Safety regulations and quality control, etc.

I'm just so sick of being held to arbitrary requirements that have no affect on productivity and only serve to make us miserable and stroke their egos.
