The Job Market Is Unbearable

I’m currently a business analyst making $60k at my job. Keep in mind, I’m from New York, so that doesn’t go nearly as far as it would in other states. Because I graduated in 2020, I had the misfortune of struggling to find a job for a year and a half before landing my current position. After being there for a year, I didn’t get a raise despite having good remarks in my review because the company is going down the shitter at breakneck speed. I’ve been trying to find a job since October of 2022 and have easily applied to over 500 jobs since then. I’ve come close to landing a job, but no luck. After being there for a year, I didn’t get a raise despite having good remarks in my review because the company is going down the shitter at breakneck speed.

I’ve been trying to find a job since October of 2022 and have easily applied to over 500 jobs since then. I’ve come close to landing a job, but no luck.

In New York, unless you’re pulling $72k or more, you’re probably not affording rent. However, many jobs keep demanding more and more skills that do not warrant the low wages relative to what’s being required.

I also notice a trend of almost no job being a 40 hour work week anymore, many requesting past 50 hours of work and to be on call for weekends, with still unimpressive salaries offered.

Not to mention, so many jobs have several hundreds of applicants, so good luck being the one to land the job.

If I’m involved in a field known for higher wages and I’m struggling this much, what’s even the outlook for the younger generation?

I can’t imagine trying to look for work in a field that makes less on average.

I sacrificed my passion and went into this field for the money and job opportunities, but feel like both are lacking.

I also don’t really have connections so I’m fucked in that regard.

Is there any secret to actually landing a stable job that I don’t know about?
