The most ridiculous scheduling I’ve ever seen. I was lied to.

I recently started a maintenance mechanic job at a large food condiment manufacturer. Union shop, annual tool allowance, good benefits, and the pay is not awesome for the field but not way out of market either. For the first 8 weeks I'm in training and my schedule is typical 8 hour shifts, M-F. I got told I'd likely go to 12s after training, but that isn't that odd. What didn't get mentioned was that it would be 12s M-F AND 8s on the weekends. 7 day schedule. If you work 6 straight you qualify for a “day of rest” but you need to submit a form requesting the day and offer multiple choices for the day you want because you might not get your initially requested day. With my 45+min commute, that'll likely exceed an hour each way come winter, I'm gonna be dedicating 16hr of every day to this job…

I got no problem working, but I need a life outside of what gives me a paycheck. So looks like I'm back on the job hunt while I still have weekends to do it.
