I just had a hiring manager basically admit that the reason they make it so difficult is because they want to cover their asses when they choose a candidate.
As in, they can choose a candidate based on semi-illegal means. For example, not hiring someone because she is pregnant, or has a strong accent, etc.
“Well, that candidate didn't have the 5 years experience we needed in a coding language that came out 3 years ago.”
I'll be looking for a new job ASAP.
