The retail chain I work for is screwing over their workers, and the union is letting it happen.

Before I get started, I want to clarify that I am pro union, as I think they are usually beneficial towards workers. However, I believe some unions don't do a good enough job, and some seem corrupt. I work for a retail chain and haven't seen an increase in pay for YEARS. I pay over $600 a year for union dues. I got paid only like an extra $200 dollars for working during covid. Apparently from what I heard, our union president (WHO WE CANT EVEN VOTE FOR!!) makes around $300,000 a year. Tonight is the deadline to vote whether we strike or not. Oddly enough, the union's higher ups seem to be more than willing to bend over backwards for a new collective bargaining agreement. Going as far as to send every union member THIS VIDEO.

The union president then proceeded to give everyone a 3 minute prerecorded call, telling everyone not to believe what is said on social media about the new contract. We need a 60% vote to strike, and I honestly hope we do. I'm tired of the bullshit my job puts me through for minimal pay. Our wages are definitely NOT keeping up with the cost of living.

So I have some questions for you all here. If there is no strike, would it be a good idea to leave the union and bring in the extra $600? Times are tough and the money would definitely help. Would it be possible to start a new union that isn't as scummy?

Thanks to everyone for reading, and be sure to check out that video I linked. The vibes I get from it are very unsettling. Before they turned comments off, every comment was saying to vote no lol.
