Hey everyone I just gotta talk/rant about this for a bit. So my IT company recently completed a major project, like I'm talking Project Engineers working 14+ hr days and high stress for a few months. During the go-live day our Service Desk got slammed with calls, normally we get 100-150 calls a day….. we got 300 calls in an hour. Management pretty pushed out an emergency announcement that EVERYONE needed to hop on the phones and do T1 tech support.
I got a bit of knowledge on how we do billing and charge clients. Doing some quick math, this project brings in about $6,000/month in reoccurring profit, not revenue, profit. Plus whatever one time payment the client made. My guesstimate is a few hundred thousand dollars.
Today management announced the special reward for all our hard work….. a pizza party. Unless you work remote (which a good chunk of us do), then you get nothing. Here's the wild part of this all, most of my coworkers are going nuts over the pizza. They love it, their celebrating and posting a bunch of pizza related memes.
And I'm over here thinking “Is that really worth it??…. months of weekend work and 14+hr days…… Just for a few slices of pizza? While our boss gets enough money to buy a new airplane”. The Project Engineers got the worst of it, as they did the vast majority of the work and are pretty indifferent to the situation. I even asked one of them if this all bothered him, and he said “Eh… not really, its just how life goes. The Chief's always get more”
Isn't that weird? Am I overthinking this? or am I just turning into a jaded old person?
