The way things used to be?

I was thinking about my first “real” jobs – first a video store when I was 18 (ya I’m old), then a 5 star golf resort/hotel, and after college – financial services at several “evil” big banks. Not once, in all that time did I ever hear about anyone being fired or laid off. I’m sure there were slow times and budget issues but not ONE person was ever let go or even fired for cause. There was a sense of security and yes “a family” – I was just laid off after almost two years along with about 20% of my fellow employees. My boyfriend commented that all jobs are basically “contract” and everyone stays about two years. There is zero security and zero loyalty. It feels like the employer used to feel a sense of responsibility- no more. I feel badly my children won’t ever get that feeling…
