So. Have to be a little vague here but they had to close our store (food industry) because there is a maintenance issue causing employees to feel ill at work. They closed the store before our alloted shift time was supposed to end and sent us home because of how big the issue is.
But they keep saying to the evening staff that that “does not necessarily mean we will closed tonight”
But the last few days this issue has persisted with this same circle of events. The evening staff hasn't been getting paid because each day they have to close the store at some point during the day. and the employees are told they aren't going to be paid for the shifts they cut short or the evening ones they had to cancel last minute. Manager said “Everyone who didn't clock in is not getting paid for today” after the staff were standing outside the store for 1.5 hours
Is there anything we can do to advocate for ourselves to get this pay? Do we have any ground to stand on here? This issue has been going on for days where they open and close the store because the maintenance issue occurs again and employees get ill. We are trying to advocate for ourselves but don't know where to start.
