I’ve worked for an utility contractor for the last seven years of my life. The first couple years were good. I made good money and got a chance to move out of my small town.
After 3 and a half years I wanted to move back to my hometown. I missed my family and friends. My company has a contract in my hometown so I arranged everything so I could transfer. I moved back in December of 2019 was going to start in January of 2020 but due to the pandemic they laid off a bunch of people. I was given the run around by the operations manager and said screw them I’m just going to file for unemployment.
I was on unemployment for 10 months and when it ran out I ended up going back to the big city I had moved too until I could get transferred back home. It took a couple months but I did get transferred and I’m still here today.
When you work here for 5 years they give you a dumb little metal hard hat with your name and 5 years engraved on it. You get to pick from a gift catalogue and you get 3 weeks vacation instead of two.
I was given the hard hat, the gift, and the three weeks all was good. Last year I used three weeks of vacation all was good.
This year I had been using my vacation on days it rained cause we don’t work or get paid so any day it rained I used a day. I had used 12 days of my 15. When I finally decided I was going to use it to take my daughter on a trip for her birthday.
The next week the vacation time wasn’t on my check. When I asked why they told me that I’ve actually only been an employee for two years and because I went 30 days without a check in 2020 that I have to start over.
No warning no nothing they gave me the benefits last year no problem but now they just want to take away what I’ve earned with no warning I had to find out myself.
I’ve literally not worked anywhere else for seven years dedicated my life to this company and they wanna act like I’ve only done it for two years.
I’m currently looking into working for the competition.
