They took my PTO

The title is a bit of a clickbait…..but about a year ago, I was getting deployed. My Supervisor set up a meeting with HR to go over my benefits. The HR representative stated that I will still accure PTO while I'm deployed. So my supervisor and I did the math so I could take the most amount of PTO before I leave, so I can get ready and spend time with family. We had the PTO set up and I would have finished the year with a positive balance. When I came back it was shown that I have a positive balance of 96 hours. So I decided to go on vacation and set up a trip to Australia in November. Recently they did an audit on my PTO. My new Supervisor and I were completely unaware of this so we were running around like chickens without our heads. Took us a while, and got a meeting with HR. HR told us about the audit, and how I wasn't accuring leave while I was gone. So the original HR rep was wrong, and now I don't have enough time to go on my trip. My plan right now is to start looking for a new job, and a starting time at the end of November, and just quit before my trip. Any advice?
