This is what happens when your employer puts investors over employees.

Monday we had investors take tour of the plant in order the schmooze them into lending more money to the company. No big deal. We knew about it for a while, prepped, cleaned everything up. The big day came. They told us when the tour groups were in the area that we are not allowed using loud impact tools (we build semi trucks). Weird, but fine. Then when the groups got onto the floor we were told all of the safety alarms different hoists, cranes, conveyor lines and the fire alarm system were going to be muted. All for these precious meal tickets to tour the plant without hearing protection.. and to “help the conversation”. All of those things alarms we were told verbally either by other employees, leads or managers. This is after they’ve been on a heroic crusade of how safety is so incredibly important to the company.…

This is after they’ve been on a heroic crusade of how safety is so incredibly important to the company. Different half-assed campaigns to fix the safety issues we face on a daily basis.

Line speeds are at an all time high, they tack on more things to do to each job. We get 5 minutes to clean at the end of the shift and they expect the entire building to be spotless. We have very little time to even do our job let alone clean while we do it.

Here comes the next day. Our plant manager came onto the television network to tell us how the tour went. But an oddly cut video was placed before it apologizing that they did not inform us that the fire alarm system had been silenced for the tour. Then made the massive mistake of stating, in 4K video with subtitles “this is not an OSHA violation”. Which of course you know how well that went over. And you had hundreds of people immediately googling and uncovering, yes, it is an OSHA violation. This was not disabled for a test of the system, nor was it announced. This guy is not an American politician. Stating a lie does not make it true.

Fast forward to today when people were confused as they were being told to leave the building after 12 o’clock. There was a fire. And 4 days later, 3 days after the half assed apology, the fire alarm siren was still silenced. Or at the very least their tampering of the siren screwed it up to where it did not activate properly. Because of course they did not perform a test to make sure it is functioning again.

Companies don’t give a shit about your safety. You do. And the people around you do. These companies worry about money, investors and getting a nice fat bonus when they go over quota. So this is what happens when a company fucks up, admits a fuck up then tries to lie and cover it up, to a company absolutely trying to cover their ass.

Have a great day, y’all.
