On mobile, first time posting, etc. I am fresh out of college and getting towards the end of my training period at my job. I’ve been waiting this entire work week for my supervisors to get back to me with grades/corrections on a major training project. I have completed every other training task. My “support” task this week can’t be done until the end of the week so I haven’t been doing it. So, between re-reading various documents and practically begging for anything to do, I have been on my phone. I got brought into an office this morning by a supervisor who proceeded to lecture me about my phone usage, saying there was a no phone policy (literally the first time I was hearing about this, I have seen people on their phones here) and how they keep seeing me on my phone. I actually have been helping other departments the past week just to have something to do. I just smile and nod and say I’ll go help someone with something. In the follow-up email I was sent, she said “There is no excuse for doing nothing.”
I am in training. I have finished the training tasks and am waiting on THEM to get back to me. I cannot do the main job I was hired to do because I have no been signed-off. They expect me to wonder around the building asking people for things to do, even in different departments. If they want me to do work outside of the scope of my job, I should be paid more. If they can’t give me enough work or training to fill an 8 hour day, then I should be allowed to leave. I hate this toxic work culture of expecting employees to be productive and working at every single millisecond of every day. We’re humans, not machines, we should be allowed to just exist for a few minutes. And it’s not as if they pay me enough for the work they expect us to do. The single paycheck for someone in my position doesn’t even cover a full month of the cheapest rent in the area. It’s ridiculous.
