Long time lurker first time poster.
I have been working at this distribution company as IT support for about 1 1/2 years. I was on contract for the first year making $17/h in a high cost of living area, think top 3 most expensive cities in the US. This was with 3 years of work experience.
It took 6 months to gain access to the ticketing system, over a year to gain limited access to the other systems when my colleague left leaving myself and 2 other guys had to take over his work. I had to find my own work. At least I am employed now making $20/h. It feels good to have benefits now that I’m in my late 20s.
Things here are rarely up to code and the systems are outdated and regularly breaking down. We moved 6 months after I started to a new much bigger warehouse a few miles away. Since the move I have been working out of the warehouse, no desk, no chair, no A/C, I’m using one of the oldest laptops in the building, I haven’t taken a day off since I started, at least not because I wanted to. I’m afraid to leave this job because the job market is trash and rent prices are insane.
I have a few good stories to tell if you guys are willing to read them.
Thanks for letting me rant on this sub. Ut feels good to be listened to for a change.
