Help yourself move past thinking of yourself as aligned with the democratic or republican parties. The fact is that under the last four presidents, there were times where the president's party controlled both houses and the presidency. They country has alternated parties in power too. The fact is that neither party is interested in helping average workers with the things that are keeping them down. The current occupant has only managed to pass infrastructure. The last one only managed to lower taxes for the wealthy. The one prior could have given everyone free healthcare, but chose to make everyone buy it. The one before led up to the financial crisis of '08.
The country has been debating universal healthcare, the gap between productivity and wages, and income inequality for around 15 years now, and none of this has improved. It's all gotten worse. The one party runs on culture war nonsense because all of their economic policies are terrible and hurt regular people. The other side runs on not letting the first party do those things, but then does nothing to change anything when they are in power. Neither party runs to help you, so don't tie your identity to them. They don't tie their identities to you.
Look at what candidates say they want to do, and then change them if they don't.
