Told lots of people live “paycheck-to-paycheck” by my boss

I’ve (24F) have worked at a news station for a year. 2 months ago, they hired someone part time for my same position at a $2 higher rate than me. I have a years experience on him… but anyways. I asked my boss to schedule a meeting and she met me at my desk right away…. forcing me to ask for a raise in front of all my coworkers. I said I need more money, the cost of living has gone up, my rent has gone up, my student loan payments are starting, and I can’t survive off $16 an hour. I said, I’m living paycheck to paycheck. my boss, a robot, said tons of people live paycheck to paycheck. I wish I said, “do you?” or, “does that make it okay?” all I said was “well I need more money.” she said has to talk to her boss about…

she said has to talk to her boss about it. it’s been two days since this happened and I haven’t heard anything.

keep in mind, we’re incredibly short staffed. i’m working the jobs of 3 people right now. so if I quit, they would have to hire 3 new people… I hate it here lol
