Treated unfairly by my boss lately, so I found something better!

If you’re reading this, thank you for taking the time. It should only be 5min. So to start, my boss is my uncle (not blood related). He hired me when I was 21 to do industrial sales and now I’m 25 doing pretty much the same stuff, just a lot more experience and knowledge at this point. So I started at 12.50/hr and now I earn 17.50/hr. I also am one of two people employed that knows how to build custom hydraulic hoses, I know where everything in the store is, I lock up daily, manage the other sales reps’ accounts for them when they’re slammed busy and am the only one at the store for the last hour of the day when everyone else heads home. Here’s the thing, my uncle is hardly here anymore as he’s busy with charity work through the local rotary club, I’m the main…

Here’s the thing, my uncle is hardly here anymore as he’s busy with charity work through the local rotary club, I’m the main one keeping inventory restocked and flowing while training a guy who just started, and found out he’s starting with $18.50/hr.

It is a small family run business as I also work with two of my cousins, and there’ll be some negotiating to help others out, but it just doesn’t make sense to me when I’m doing way more currently than ever. Also, our accounts receivable girl has been there for 13 years now, and she gets a 7-hour work day with 2-hour lunch break. She comes in at 8:30 (supposed to be 8:00), leaves at 3:30 (supposed to be 4:00), and gets commissions from an account that me and other employees handle, because my uncle gave her that for God knows why. You may think she’s older and she’s earned it, she’s 28…

Finally, we were all told someone was looking up dirty sites on our wifi and to cut that shit out. Welp, that ain’t me, keep carrying on with my day I guess.
Couple weeks later, and there’s a lull in the day, I’m trying to find some pyramid washers for a customer and think “I wonder how much that one Goblin card (Magic the Gathering) is going for on TCGPlayer right now?” So I do a quick search, save it to my cart in my account, continue with work and later get unloading a freight truck. Then my boss walks out…

Holding a stack of papers of search history and pointing to a couple of links to that card, spewing off stuff about how “every minute you’re working here I’m paying you!” and “do that shit at home, not in my building!” and how “this is what I was talking about just awhile ago.” He finishes it by saying “one more time, you’re gone.” Also just flat out said in front of me to our IT girl that he’ll be checking my search history after I use a computer. That was two weeks ago and here we are.

I’ve got an interview to be territory sales rep with a company day after tomorrow that’ll double my salary, less hours and pays for my gas, phone, car, health and dental, I’m wanting to start asap (but still give two weeks notice, family and all).

Moral of the story: you don’t always get what you put in, not even with the ones you love.
