Tried to not to pay for a stat holiday..

This happened to coworker. In Canada where I live you must work your scheduled day before and after a statutory holiday in order to be paid for it. My coworker had a family emergency come up and he asked the boss permission to leave. The boss agree and he left at the beginning of his shift the day before the stat holiday. He came back for his regularly scheduled shift the day after he found out that they weren't going to pay him. He looked up the labour code at home and found out that they had to pay him for the holiday and he brought it to the boss.
