Turned down after interviewing for a higher position, because I wasn’t “detailed enough” in my interview.

I asked if my metrics or performance were a factor and they said “Nope.” And that they aren’t even taken into account whatsoever. Apparently it all depends on how you do in the interview. I’m the highest performing sales person at my work, but since I didn’t give them the answers they wanted in the interview I’ve been turned down after the 1st of 3 interviews for the position that I applied for. Asked how I can do better, and all they said was “Just keep doing what you’re doing and maybe next time you’ll be considered.” So yeah that’s how my day went.
