Unpaid leave

I am a salary exempt employee working in Texas. I get 14 days of accrued PTO for the first 2 years with no sick time. Of course I was unwell and used the little amount of accrued PTO as sick time. I ran out of PTO and was force to take unpaid leave for days that I was unable to work. Is it legal for a Texas employer to force a salary exempt employee who is out of PTO to use unpaid leave for one day they were out of a whole week? Second question: Can an employer use unpaid leave without the employee permission or notification of doing so for a day in which the employee worked remotely?
