So I have been working for this start up company for 4 months and I already fear for my safety.
I roast coffee from raw bean in an industrial size roasting machine. However, this room is confined, absolutely filled with coffee dust and not ventilated well at all recently the fan motor broke and the owner ordered a new one and asked me to hook it up. Well of course, this new model didn't fit this old roaster so the gasket/seal didn't fit and it's being held together by 1 single screw. Also, the motor sits about 6inches lower than the exaughst outlet so I had to tape up the giant gaps. However, this still let's out massive amounts of particulates and smoke into the room and surrounding hallways and turns the place into a smoggy, unbreathable mess . I'm worried that this could cause a fire/explosion or even negatively impact my health
Called the owner and told him this and he simply said “we can't run out of coffee, we will clean the mess up later and il have someone come look at it first thing tomorrow”
This was 2 weeks ago and nothings been done.
Can I quit and still get unemployment?
