this happens in Germany, but I appreciate your input. I'm a nurse there.
New manager because I changed stations at my hospital system, not because the station got a new manager
90% of the employees at this station are women, including the manager. This is relevant:
4th day of my job at this new station. Manager saw me working and walking fast (because Im working) and the first thing she says after calling me is: 'more smiling'.
It is beyond me why this woman would think this is acceptable behavior and if genders were reversed and I said that to a female coworker, Id already be out of a job, period. I thought I was there to do a job.
Before you say 'quit', well' id like to, but my system is the best paying one in a 100 mile radius and I need the money. It is what it is. I already changed stations once and I don't know if after asking to work elsewhere once they system's gonna to blacklist me or outright fire me. Where I am they may fire me without cause in the first 6 months. I've been in this system for 2 months only.
No good cards, however I look at it, because if I confront her she may badmouth me or outright convince the Pflegedienstleitung (read: boss over her, another woman) to fire me. She doesn't need cause.
I was thinking about replying next time: 'I smile when I have grounds to. When Im working, I need to concentrate at the job', but I don't know how she is going to take it.
Or, am I too thin skinned?
small rant: they keep complaining they don't get new nurses. No sh*t, you keep being hostile to your new employees and you expect people to apply?
I was just looking for a drama free position as a nurse…
First time this happens to me. Now I know what women feel when men talk about their looks in front of them.
