UPS is tricking people into being scabs.

I work at UPS, and as a unionized work place, it's pretty great. However, as UPS has raked in record profits, they have been unwilling to make any concessions for the people who do 90% of the actual work for them, Part Time Package Handlers, in the latest contract negotiations. One thing you should know is that once you've been hired at UPS as a Package Handler, you aren't immediately a part of the Union. There is a roughly 3 month period where you have to be trained and UPS has leeway to fire you if you aren't up to their standards.

Once you make it through that period, you are then a part of the Union with all the protections of union representation. Herein lies the problem.

The UPS Teamsters are most likely going on strike when the current contract ends on August 1st.
UPS has been hiring very large groups of people every week at my warehouse, and presumably at every other warehouse nationwide. They are hiring these people without warning them that, since they aren't a part of the Union yet, they will not be eligible to join us in the strike. If these people join the strike, they will be blacklisted from the company, and will never be able to work for UPS again. If these people break picket lines and go to work, the word is that they will be blacklisted from the Union and be ineligible for Union representation in the future. This means that, once the strike is over, all these people will either have to go into management, unlikely, or they will all be laid off and never allowed back at UPS.

UPS is screwing over thousands of people rather than come to the table in good faith negotiations over the Part Time Package Handlers contract.
