USPS Hiring Frustration

Hey everyone, I suppose I just wanted to vent and share this frustrating experience. I applied for a Laborer Custodial position back in November of 2022, and then a Maintenance Mechanic position at the same location in December of 2022. I interviewed and went through all the hoops for Laborer Custodial and got a job offer in January 2023. The schedule offered was great and I accepted. However, shortly after accepting I received notification that I passed both the 955 exam and 972 interview panel. I quickly called USPS and told them I would actually like to wait to be offered the Maintenance Mechanic position rather than moving forward with the Laborer Custodial one. Hey everyone, I suppose I just wanted to vent and share this frustrating experience.

I applied for a Laborer Custodial position back in November of 2022, and then a Maintenance Mechanic position at the same location in December of 2022.

I interviewed and went through all the hoops for Laborer Custodial and got a job offer in January 2023. The schedule offered was great and I accepted. However, shortly after accepting I received notification that I passed both the 955 exam and 972 interview panel. I quickly called USPS and told them I would actually like to wait to be offered the Maintenance Mechanic position rather than moving forward with the Laborer Custodial one. I figured it’d only be a few weeks most before I received the offer. I am a disabled veteran and there were many open positions. However, this is not what happened. After a month, in March 2023, I emailed the USPS asking for an update to no avail. I called the HR representative and asked again in April 2023, she told me they were having issues with my application because they thought I had failed the 972 (which I hadn’t). I quickly sent over my eligible results which she verified and told me I should receive offers in the beginning of May 2023. I called again at the end of May, she told me just one more week or so and I should receive the offer. I heard nothing. Fast forward to this week in late June and they sent me another interview exam for Maintenance Mechanic. My successful eligible results don’t expire until 2025 and they told me I’d have no choice but to take it again or choose not to work there at all.

I have no idea why they’d require me to take it again anyway considering I showed them proof I passed, and I just received a job offer for maintenance mechanic at a different location THIS WEEK. Unfortunately I couldn’t accept due to the schedule that was offered but still. It proves my eligible result is in the system and adequate.

Throughout this entire process, HR and Maintenance at this facility has been barely responsive and I’ve had to go above and beyond just for what I’ve heard. Do they just not like me? Discriminating? I honestly don’t know. For anyone wondering it’s the New York Morgan P&DC.
