My spouse works (blue collar) in a location far enough away from everything that everyone meets up and carpools in a company van to the work site. September was a month of mandatory overtime but they promised it would end — now they are claiming it is voluntary but you are shamed for leaving early, most people on the site don't know any better because they are young, and it's generally very hard to get rides home at the regular schedule (neither shuttle leave until the overtime schedule). People have been dropping like flies and just quitting left and right. My spouse has to do trade school on Mondays and Wednesdays, and even then there is not an easy ride home. I've been needing to pick him up multiple days a week and it is difficult to drive kids to and from, not to mention gas and car maintenance money.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, so please point me in the correct direction if I'm lost. We have no unions (very red part of the USA) and I'm just trying to brainstorm resources in order to not have to pick up my spouse when there is anything that needs to be done that day because they're gone 11 hours a day
