Mini rant, I’ve been doing 1099 low voltage for the last 3 years and had my ups and downs but overall enjoy the freedom. I recently started a W2 job working on elevators and it’s pretty shit. The job itself is interesting and I would love to actually learn and further expand my skill set. My problem comes with all the bs you gotta deal with as an employee. One example would be taking a 30 min lunch break which is literally forced. It’s whatever but we travel a 4 hour radius throughout the day so good luck. Another thing being paid hourly in the service industry. Everybody at this company wants to work 10-12 hours a day 5 days a week & it’s usually just killing time cause the work isn’t extremely time consuming .. I’ll use my last complaint to mention the dumbass meetings which usually don’t consist of anything besides “we just wanted to see you in person”. A lot of these companies have a bunch of people just collecting checks and wasting their day with no intention at becoming anything besides a tax write off. I don’t see working 60 hours a week as something to be proud of especially if that time was mostly milking hours doing nothing. I prefer piece rate payment that way you do more work you get paid more money and actually want to work more! Intentionally working 12 hour shifts so you can make a certain amount of money is a trash style of work imo. Employers are massive enablers for shit workers.
