Was Saturday My Last Day of Work?

I’ve been working for a large regional bank on contract for the past two years. They will not be extending it at the end of this month. That’s cool. 100% WFH. Nice hourly rate. Supportive supervisor. Mostly good people trying to get things done, despite being understaffed. My supervisor gave me a great performance review. They were recently acquired. There have been a few hiccups, mostly IT related. Yesterday the sales representative of the contract agency that I work for (through?) forwarded an email from the client company confirming that last Saturday was my last day. My workday starts in about 30 minutes. Yesterday I had no problem logging on and working as usual. Today, I plan to start on time, send a polite email to my client supervisor, and work until a human, not a buggy form-letter generator, tells me to stop. I’m not upset. I’m lucky that I’m…

I’m not upset. I’m lucky that I’m collecting Social Security and Medicare, so I have good safety nets. The unemployment rate here is less than 2%, so I plan to let the agency look for other 100% WFH contracts. The city where I live probably has a handful of people who do similar work, so most likely I would not get a local contract. I may consider gigs within a 15-20 minute drive, but commuting is such a wasteful, time-consuming activity that the destination will have to ‘compensate’ me for commuting.

What do you think; was last Saturday my last day of work, or should I plan on working for a few more weeks?

I’ll update when I find out if I should continue to work today.
