We should unionize in Tech

These layoffs, mismanagement of the company, executives having cushions and not facing consequences, and throwing caution to the wind regarding labor laws, are just infuriating. Why can't tech unionize and let the companies follow terms? This helps – Benefits will be standardized – Layoffs won't happen as much without a lot of scrutiny and discussion – Companies will treat people better. 9-5 came from wanting sane working hours. You want 60 – 80 hours, pay overtime. – Salary bands will be standardized – none of the bs (above market below market bs). You know what you will get at each level with an actual range. I can already see people typing that you won't get the high salary that people command today. Why not? A union would be able to negotiate the right salary for you pertaining to the actual company. A Meta employee makes more money for Meta than they pay him/her. You should be paid higher than you are today.

Companies will not agree to this since they will lose control. But, they don't care about the humans when they mismanage their company and have to lay off.

Employees from Google started this movement ages ago but that went nowhere. I wonder if someone can pick this up and start an actual tangible movement that can benefit the industry.
