I know I'm far from the first to post about this, but I need to vent.
I'm a content writer with ~10 years of experience under my belt and have been looking for a new position since I got laid off in mid-April. Some of the bullshit I've come across blows my mind.
Writing samples/tests are pretty standard but some of these folks are just asking too much for too little
One company wanted a two-hour exam on top of writing samples and a portfolio. It was a p/t temp position that paid $20/hour and didn't start until August.
Another company's application contained 10 essay questions most of which could've been answered by looking over my resume. The rest were personal questions like “What podcasts do you listen to,” or “Who is your favorite author,” and my favorite “What feeds your soul?”
After that they sent out a 4-question “survey” with more headass essay questions. Then, they wanted a 2-minute Loom video in which I detailed what excited me about the company. The position topped out at $25/hour.
This shit has me seriously considering a career change, as much as I love what I do.
