Small bit of background, I (35M) joined this local grocer as a full time cashier a little over a year and a half ago. Was initially considered for a supervisor role, but felt it was too early at this store (I have 5+ years experience at another store) to move up.
Currently, wanting to move up, but getting denied. Manager claims I have too many absences despite using sick time so they shouldn’t be counted. Other people are being considered for supervisor and up roles despite being part time. Other departments don’t have openings.
When I talk to the manager about moving up, they claim I need to “step up” despite being the guy who is training new employees and putting in double the effort others do. They’re also giving me the cold shoulder otherwise. They don’t say hi, they don’t smile, they just walk by unless they want me to do something or want to say I’ve done bad (Despite the fact I have no write-ups).
Other people in the department also say if I talk to them I’ll “get them in trouble” but then socialize on the clock with other coworkers. I feel completely unwelcome here despite being one of the most skilled workers in the store.
Advice, fellow wage-slaves?
