What does at least X years of experience mean, in actual terms?

When i just finished my postdoc, i looked for jobs and they were always listed with “requires at least X years of industry experience” (mostly 2 but some required more) and i was even rejected from two work places i interviewed for after at least thr second round of interviews claiming, that while i have experience with the subject in an academic setting, they need someone with industry experience. Now that I've been in the industry for a bit over two years, what I'm feeling that two years in the industry means is i needed the time and exposure to learn how to deal with uneducated rich people, bosses that don't know what they want us to do but think that everything works like on TV. But i need to give my two cents (and no more) and just try stuff even if i know it's nonsense and a waste…

What are your experiences with X years of experience?

Hoping next workplace will be better.
