What if CEO’s and executives are trying to hoard as much money as they possibly can because they know a recession/depression is coming?

It's pretty obvious that CEO's only care about themselves and how rich they get, but does anyone else notice a pattern this year in which CEO's and executives are blatantly hoarding a lot of money for themselves while firing their employees? I mean, if business and the economy was so good, why are they blatantly all trying to hoard as much profit from their businesses as possible while firing their employees? If they truly saw long-term growth and health in the economy, they wouldn't be trying to keep the money while firing all their employees for short-term gains. They'd be re-investing their money into their businesses and expanding their empires as much as they could. But they're not. Does this mean that an upcoming crash/recession/depression is on the near horizon?
